LS swaps into E30s and E36s are actually pretty popular. But I'm more a fan of keeping it in the BMW family. Rob Levinson was (maybe still is) transplanting an E46 M3 motor into an E36 M3 - the problem with these transplants though is that the wiring is MUCH more complicated. The price point and ease of install is what makes an LS swap appealing.
