My auto dimming high beam works almost perfectly. When driving towards rear tail lights, no matter how far, it recognizes the tail lights and dims accordingly.
As far as oncoming traffic I would say it dims just as effectively. I would say about the same timing as if I were to do it myself. The only exception is that if an oncoming car has a one dim and one normal brightness headlight, it keeps the high beam on for some reason.
