I'm sure that was a joke as it is a prosecutable offense in most cities.
However, back in the olden days out in the country, if our colony of cats got too big we'd have "cull the herd". It was very unnerving as we had the "inside" cats we liked, then the working cats that lived outside". Generally they stayed between 12 and 18 in number but occasionally would swell into the 20's then my dad would come out with a couple of .22's and the reaping would begin.
I never got used to shooting cats.
