Back in the day I owned an S3 Lotus Elan convertible. It was quite a revelation in handling after owning a Triumph TR6. But most surprising was the incredibly economical fuel consumption (40+ UK mpg).
It did feel like it weighed no more than a couple of Kellogg's cornflake boxes, so I guess that was part of it...but the engine was also quite a gem.
