CBE Colin Chapman's brilliance was quite two-edged....his mantra of "performance through lightweight" and "subtracting weight makes you faster" created a new standard for race cars, but also created potential death to the drivers.
The list of GP winning machines and teams is incredible. Lotus was one of the few F1 constructors that engineered, manufactured and sold high performance road cars.
His popularization of monocoque design and adoption of aerodynamics places Chapman and Lotus at the sharp end of design and innovation.
