Plug in ultra sonic devices worked for me in the past. We had an RV and used them in upstate NY and the mice left it alone. Also, it may not be pleasant but old fashioned moth balls in breathable bags (not in the car but in the garage) are supposed to keep them away too but be careful as they are poisonous to pets. I use them in the enclosure of my pool heater and they appear to keep rodents out.
I had an Acura TL that rodents went to down on in the engine compartment. Insurance paid most of the damage costs but man what a PITA.
