Power kits for the 335i and 135i

It appears that the much talked about power hike for the 135 and 335 isn't coming as standard but as a power kit to pick in the option list like you do when picking heated seats or a stereo upgrade.

At the Geneva auto show next month, BMW will be presenting its Performance Power Kit for the 135i and the 335i.

The 135i and the 335i both feature BMW's 3.0 liter, twin-turbo, in-line 6-cylinder engine which comes with a standard 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque (295 lb-ft). The BMW Performance Power Kit boosts that by 20 hp to 326 and takes torque to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) on the automatic gearbox. The manual transmission gets only a bump up to 430 Nm (or 317 lb-ft of torque).

Apart from some software tuning for improved engine management, the Performance Power Kit also features an additional radiator on the outside of the engine, a high performance fan on the main radiator, and air flow ducts to help deal with all the extra heat.

The kit is available for the following BMW models: the 135i Coupé, 135i Convertible, 335i Saloon, 335i Touring, 335i Coupé, and the 335i Convertible. It improves performance on the 335i Saloon by 0.2 seconds on the 0 to 100 km/h sprint, coming in at 5.4 seconds. Mid-range acceleration, 80-120 km/h, is half a second quicker with the kit.

The Performance Power Kit can also be combined with BMW's 7-speed automatic sports transmission on the BMW 335i Coupé and the BMW 335i Convertible models.

No details on pricing or when the kit becomes available were included in the press release.
