Overheating is more commonly reported using the QI pad, as above. No type or model of phone specified, or which port, but if it overheats with a USB cable, perhaps the solution is to use the pad. Or use a different cable. Or check the cable elsewhere to see if the phone otherwise overheats. There shouldn't technically be any difference charging with a cable wherever you charge, because the phone itself (most of them) should limit the input to the battery through the USB, but IIR someone has checked the amperage through the USB-C ports in the iX somewhere in the forum.
